The children in Year 1 made some amazing posters/ booklets/ PowerPoints all about the Amazon Rainforest. They are all absolutely fantastic.
We have been learning about the Amazon Rainforest in Geography, learning about animals in science and have been completing activities based on the book ‘Monkey Puzzle’ in English.

Phonics

In Year 1 we have a big emphasis on Phonics. We follow a programme called 'Read Write Inc' (RWI)
The Read Write Inc. programme is for primary school children learning to read.

It enables every child to become a confident and fluent reader at the first attempt.

Below I have attached the Set 1 , Set 2 and Set 3 phonics mats which have all of the letter sounds that your child should know and will be learning.

If you would like to give your child some more support at home you could; show them the  Phonics mats attached and go through them with your child regularly, you could click on the links below and play the phonics games and most importantly read with your child as often as you can and make it enjoyable for them!

Year 1 Common exception words and High frequency words

By the end of Year 1 the children should be able to read all of the common exception words and most or all of the high frequency words.
I have attached the words below so you can go through these words at home with your child/ren if you would like to  support them further.
