Intent

At Our Lady's we believe that Art, craft, design and music express some of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality Art, design and music education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft, design and music. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of Art, design and music. They should also know how it reflects and shapes our history and contributes to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Art and Design
Children are encouraged to be spontaneously creative, using a variety of media and techniques in art and craft work. An awareness of colour, shape, balance, focus and proportion are developed alongside how to convey ideas and feelings. The study of a wide range of artists, craftspeople and designers complement this work.

Music
The teaching of music is based around our the Charanga scheme of work. Children have the opportunity to enjoy musical experiences through listening, singing, movement and dance and by playing a variety of musical instruments. We also have specialist music teachers to teach new music skills and give pupils the best opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in this area of the curriculum.

Design and Technology
Through Design and Technology, the children are encouraged to design, make then evaluate their work and involves solving practical problems. The children are encouraged to be inventive, using a range of materials and tools, thus developing, modifying and evaluating their ideas through a series of projects and are often linked to the learning  challenge.
