Home Learning W/C 11th January 2021

Hi everyone, I hope you had a restful weekend and you are all keeping safe.
I finally put my Christmas decorations in my loft and went for a big walk :)!!

Thank you to those who have sent me their work so far, I really enjoy reading your work and seeing how hard you have been working at home :).

Below you will find this week's work. Again the time-table is there as a guide. Please do not worry if you cannot complete all the work, I have just put a time-table up as some parents prefer to have something to follow! Underneath the time-table I have attached a document with a range of PE activities on. Each day I would like you to choose a couple to do at home. It is very important to exercise and keep active -especially with us all spending a lot more time indoors!

Any questions please just message me :).

From Miss Corkill
Monday 11th January:

English: The next few weeks we will be reading the story 'One Day on our Blue Planet: In the Savannah' by Ella Bailey. During our virtual meetings I will read the story to you all and we will discuss the book together :).

Today I want you to watch the video and listen to the story yourself. It is a fantastic story with lots of beautiful illustrations to look at!

I want you to think about the cub in the story. What has he seen on his adventure through the Savannah? How might he be feeling?

In the role of the cub I want you to write a diary entry all about your adventure around the Savannah. Write about what you saw as you wandered around the Savannah and how you felt! Remember we write a diary entry in the first person so we use 'I'. I want you to include lots of description and thoughts and feelings! For example: Dear Diary, I had the most exciting day today! I went on an adventure around the Savannah and I saw lots of unusual things such as...

Maths: Practise writing out your number bonds to 20 and recalling them before you start today's lesson. For today's lesson I would like you to watch the video and complete the work-sheet below Lesson 1 .

Art: We are learning about the artist Vincent Van Gogh. I would like you to read the power-point to find out who he was and to look at some of his famous paintings. Then I would like you to sketch his famous 'Sunflowers' painting.

Story Time: I would like you to either continue reading your own story book at home or you can register online for FREE to 'Oxford Owl' to download e-books for you to read. If you choose to do this, send me a message and I can tell you what level books your child is currently reading so you can download the correct book-band. Please click on the link to register: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/user/sign_up.html
Remember you can send me messages telling me all about the story-books you are reading at home!

I want you to imagine you are there. Close your eyes and think about what you can smell, see, hear and touch! you have just used your senses to describe the picture.  I have attached a senses sheet for you to complete, with examples on it to help you! Below you will also see the picture from the book to help you. Try and be creative - you could also research and watch videos to help you think of ideas!

Thursday 14th January:

English:  Using your 'senses' worksheet from yesterday to help you I would like you to write a description of the illustration from yesterday. I have attached the picture again so you can see it. Remember to write about what you can see, hear, feel and smell. I want you to use a range of adjectives and different openers in your writing. I don't want 'There are..' used all the time. You could use different openers such as; 'in the distance..' 'flying above in the blue sky', 'down by the watering hole..'
I am looking forward to reading your descriptions :).

Science: Using your log-in I sent out last week please go onto Discovery Education and work through the 'board' please. As soon as you log in, the board will be there. Read the information first and then scroll to the bottom to play the interactive games. The children have used the 'boards' in school so they should know what to do :). Once you have completed the interactive activities I want you to write an explanation of a 'herbivore', 'carnivore' and an 'omnivore'.

Friday 15th January:

English: Today in English I want you to 'read a picture'. Reading a picture means using your inference skills and to write about what you can see and what you think might happen. I want you to use my favourite word too 'because' and explain your reasons why. We have completed similar activities to this before in class so you should all know what to do! I have attached two images for you to write about below. Challenge yourself to add lots of detail!!

Maths:  First I would like you to draw your tens and ones. Then watch the video and complete the works-sheet below. Lesson 5

You can do whatever you want as long as you do something fun and active to kickstart your weekend!!
