A reminder of what RESCUE means:

RESCUE the word

R: read the word

E: explore the word (with or without a thesaurus) by listing synonyms and antonyms

S: spell the word and underline any tricky parts

C: check the spelling is correct

U: make sure you understand the word (use a dictionary if necessary).  Can you explain what the word means to your parents/siblings/friends?

E: explain the word by writing two-five different sentences using the word.  Try to use it in different contexts to show its varied meanings if possible.

Read through the presentation on balanced arguments, and then carefully read the example. You need to highlight all the words and phrases you can magpie. Look at the structure and the paragraphs. Look at when opinions are put in and how they are organised.
History

Today we are looking at Viking beliefs.
On Discovery Education look through the boards on the assignment - Viking Beliefs Week 3. Do some of your own research and create a profile of a Viking god or goddess.

Now we have studied a good text, we need to create our own.

We are going to argue for and against: Should children wear school uniform?

I have attached an example with some ideas and some help with the structure.
There is a planning sheet to complete, remember to think about arguments both FOR and AGAINST and only give your opinion at the end.

Today will be for planning and tomorrow will be for writing!
Art

Now we have a good idea of David Hockney's style, and we have chosen our colours and practised our sketches, now we need to create our full picture.

Task: Draw and colour (paint/pencils/pastels - whatever you like!) a landscape in the style of David Hockney.

I have added some pictures below of some landscapes but feel free to choose your own. Please don't directly copy one of Hockney's paintings - make your own in his style.

We will be continuing this next week too, so don't rush and try your best to make it as good as possible and in the style of Hockney.

Good luck, and enjoy!
French

Now it's time to write our first draft of our balanced argument.
Once you have completed it, use the success criteria and get an adult or older sibling to check through it with you.

Once completed send it to me. It's better to send it as a document so I can edit it than a picture!
Come and See

Continuing our study of Sources and to use the bible, we are talking of different kinds of book within the Bible. Some books are historical books, some are personal recounts, some are poetry books.

If you have a Bible, there is usually a page either at the front or the back which tells you which genre is which book. For example, Kings (which tells the story of various Kings) is an historical book. If you don't have a Bible some quick research will get you the genre of book.

Task: Look up these passages in the Bible, quote the passages (or what you feel is the most important part if they are very long), and say what genre of book they come from.

Gen 1-2:25
Gen 12:1-7
1 Kings 2:1-4
1 Kings 8:1-21
Ruth 4:13-17
Esther 4:14-16
