English:

RESCUE the spellings above. Send me the words written in full sentences - don't forget the punctuation!

After that, find the antonyms of these words and write them in full sentences too!

Science:

We are looking at classification this term. Classification helps us sort and organise different animals and plants into their groups and eventually species. To do this we make classification keys by asking questions of the animals and comparing them.

Look at the gallery below (there is also a powerpoint if you want to use that) to find out about classification keys.

Then create your own using the pictures in the next gallery. There are download links if you can,  or you can just put the name of the animals. There is also an example classification key too!

Q5 asks you to colour in a thousandths grid. I have added one below if you need it but please don't draw one out...that would take a very long time to get right!

English

I have attached a Vikings comprehension in this section. Red the article then answer the questions. You can reply by sending me a message with your answers (please punctuate properly this is English after all!), or you can write them out and take a photo to send me.

The writing aspect of English will be covered in the History section!

History:

We are starting our topic on the Vikings (did I ever tell you that I am a Viking?!). Your first task is to create a fact file about the Vikings. I have created an assignment with a video on Discovery Education which would be the best place to do it. I understand not everyone will be able to use that, so if you would prefer to research your own information, and either write it by hand and send me a picture, or make your own word document (with pictures of course!) and send that, all these ways are fine.

The title is "Who were the Vikings?" I have attached a document to give you some ideas for your research.
Wednesday

Maths:

TT Rockstars - 10 minutes and I will check!

As a starter, complete the Flash Back 4 questions (and the time in the top right corner)

Next, complete the worksheets on decimals after watching the video.

At the bottom of this page are some reasoning questions as challenges.

English:

Look through the powerpoint (or gallery of slides) at figurative language. Read through the story called Silence (I've put it as a Word document and PDF). Highlight all the figurative language. Once you have done this write your own Winter story... there are more details in the slides!

As this should be a long piece of writing with excellent grammar, excellent vocabulary and excellent figurative language, today should be for planning and Wednesday will be for writing!

To submit, either send me a document or a good photo of the story, or write it into a message. If it's long you may need two messages!

Art:

We are going to be looking at a famous painter in art: David Hockney.
At the bottom of today's section is a gallery with many of his landscape paintings in. I have also put them into a zip file if that's easier, and you can always Google his pictures if that's easier.

Your first task is to look through the images and give me 10 things that you notice about them that give make his style unique? What is special about the colours? What is unique about the shapes? What would make you look at his pictures and think, "Hmmm, that's a David Hockney!"?

You can respond by sending me your list of 10 things through the messages.
Thursday

Come and See

Our topic for the next few weeks is all about Sources. As Catholics we believe that the Bible is the is the story, spread over more than two thousand years, of God’s love and how God’s people responded to that love. There are all sorts of people –good, bad and indifferent –just as in the world today. God showed his love for them by wonderful deeds and each responded in a special way. There are all kinds of writings and the authors all wanted to tell us one thing: the truth about God. All of them were inspired by the Holy Spirit when they were writing. This is why the church family believes that the Holy Spirit is also the author of the Bible.

Explore:
Send me a list of 5 different genres of books you have in your house or that you have researched. Give the:
- titles and authors
- genre
- reason the book was written
- date of publication

You can just send this as a message.

Now we have looked at some Art and Figurative language. Imagine being in one of David Hockney's paintings: pick one from the gallery and imagine what it must be like in the scene. Think of the smells...are they normal or different? What does it feel like? Use figurative language and write a short paragraph to describe it.
